<image:title>About - About Nilbon Yoga</image:title>
<image:caption>Nilbon Yoga’s vision is to make yoga and yoga therapy a part of the health and healthcare journey. We believe in the power of yoga therapy in bringing eudaemonic well-being to yoga practitioners. Nilbon classes are research-based, designed and delivered by experienced and certified yoga therapists, tailored to be responsive to the unique needs and goals of practitioners. Our classes and workshops are not a substitute for medical advice or the treatments prescribed and advised by GPs or healthcare provider. Rather, through the teachings of yoga, we aim to support you to build physical, psychological, and emotional strength and resilience in a way that is responsive to your unique circumstances, while you continue to work with your GP and healthcare specialists. At Nilbon Yoga, we believe in the power of community. We like to come together, share our interests and our love of yoga’s teaching, and maybe every now and then meet for a cup of coffee, and we invite you to join us on this journey.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I believe we can all do more to keep our bodies fit and well, and that a simple, more intuitive approach to life can open the door to a healthier and happier life. Blending Yoga Therapy, Mindfulness and Ayurveda is a natural remedy for our increasingly hectic lives. I’ve enjoyed yoga for over 30 years and eventually plucked up the courage to fulfil my ambition to qualify as a yoga teacher in 2011 with Yoga Alliance while working in corporate Marketing and Innovation. Later I qualified as a Yoga Therapist in 2015 with Yogacampus and I haven’t looked back. Yoga therapy excites me because it combines my interest in yoga with my passion for science and medicine. Having studied Physiology and Biochemistry at university, I’m able to provide you with the benefit of my yoga experience and knowledge along with the reassurance of a thorough scientific background. I have tried meditation over many years but always found it difficult until I discovered Mindfulness, when I realised that we can acknowledge our thoughts but don’t have to become caught up in them. I became a qualified Mindfulness Practitioner and offer tools and techniques to help with stress and pressure in our busy world. After a period of illness, I decided to go to India for a yoga retreat and it is here that I discovered Ayurveda and the amazing benefits that are possible by making changes to our diet and lifestyle, and using herbs and massage. This prompted me to take a diploma in Ayurveda Lifestyle & Nutrition with the Ayurveda Institute UK and I now blend Yoga, Mindfulness and Ayurveda to help my clients improve their wellbeing. I have a particular interest in the brain and pain management because many of my clients present with pain symptoms that cannot be traced to an existing physical cause. I have researched this topic and discovered that there are techniques that can be used to retrain the brain to release the pain associations. Qualifications & Memberships Member of British Wheel of Yoga, International Association of Yoga Therapists, Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, and Association of Ayurvedic Professionals UK Ayurveda Practitioner in 2020 with Ayurveda Institute UK Ayurveda Lifestyle & Nutrition Diploma in 2018 with the Ayurveda Institute UK Integrating Mindfulness & Compassion in Professional Practice in 2016 with Mindfulness UK. This is Foundation Degree Level and externally accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB). Yoga Therapist in 2015 with YogaCampus CYS Yoga Teacher Training in 2011 with Yoga Alliance Book a Group Session with Julia</image:caption>

<image:caption>I found Yoga in my early 20s, whilst going through a really stressful time! My weekly practice became a time for some self care, downtime, where I would escape the fast paced existence of life. It was an opportunity for me to reconnect, rejuvenate, find calm, and feel more positive. I also benefited from some new perspectives! Yoga philosophy is full of insights and wisdom in relation to how to live a happy and fulfilled life. These new perspectives massively helped me at the time to question the path I was following. When things aren’t working in life we have the opportunity to make different choices to be the best that we are destined to be. Yoga’s transformational effects have fascinated me ever since, so much so that I retrained in 2013 to become a Yoga Teacher and then recently qualified as a Yoga Therapist. I am very much interested in the therapeutic use of Yoga and how it can help improve our health and happiness, and to reduce symptoms of chronic illness. Yoga’s philosophy and tools are designed for everyday life, to help us navigate life in a healthier and more conscious way. Our thoughts, our creative power is very influential, and can impact how we think about ourselves and others, as well as determine our actions that follow. If we can become more consciously aware, we can create a more positive and peaceful present moment existence. I am a mother to three gorgeous boys and a dog. In my spare time I love being in nature, walking, gardening, I love to dance, sing and draw. Professional Qualifications Menopause Immersion, (9hrs CPD), Uma Dinsmore-Tuli (Yoni Shakti). Interface Between Yoga & Healing (8hrs CPD) – Real Yoga. Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy, accredited by The British Council for Yoga Therapy. Yoga Therapy Certificate, British Wheel of Yoga. Post Graduate Diploma to teach Yoga, British Wheel of Yoga. Registered Yoga Therapist with the Complementary Natural Healthcare Council and member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Book a Session with Cath</image:caption>

<image:caption>I literally ‘fell’ into yoga because I was looking for an outlet to move my body but I have now been practicing for over 20 years and teaching since 2005. Little did I know what an amazing journey lay ahead of me and how yoga would support me through so many life challenges. Initially, I trained with the British Wheel of Yoga and then went onto practice and study Yoga Therapy since I felt called to use yoga therapeutically. For over 15 years I have been blessed to work with different communities and some of my work has been teaching people with Parkinsons Disease, Cancer Patients, Stroke Survivors, Addictions and Chair Yoga. I have undertaken numerous trainings and love exploring alternative modalities to support myself and others. In 2017 my own practice changed greatly due to becoming very unwell and being diagnosed with an auto-immune condition. I was in terrible pain, exhausted and struggled to even go for a walk. However, using tools such as breathwork and iRest sustained me throughout this challenging time. They have been major influences in my path of healing and in helping me to manage a chronic condition. Bringing elements of all these different modalities into my teachings, my focus is self-care, reduction of stress, increasing resilience and the importance of improving our daily life whether this is when working with someone individually or in a group setting. I am passionate about making yoga practices accessible for everyone and promote long-term physical, mental and emotional well-being. <image:caption>I am a CNHC registered yoga therapist and a TSYP and BWY accredited yoga teacher. I have practiced yoga since 2002 and taught since 2006. I qualified as a yoga therapist with the TSYP after completing 1,000 hours of training over three and a half years. I have worked with yoga therapy as a successful complementary healthcare approach for many different conditions with people of all ages, from the very young to 101. My teaching prioritises conscious breathing to reduce imbalances in the human system, promoting relaxation, comfort and stability, self-awareness and clarity of mind. This is the ancient and authentic approach of Prof. T Krishnamacharya and his son, TKV Desikachar, seeing each practitioner as a unique individual and selecting accordingly from the vast range of yoga’s tools in order to apply them in the most simple and effective way for that person. Yoga therapy is an invaluable education in how we can help ourselves feel better and enjoy life more, learning about what helps us and what doesn’t, a process of self empowerment, allowing us to actively influence our own healing under the skilled and careful guidance of a qualified and experienced therapist. I passionately believe in yoga therapy as a complete system of self-care for body and mind and in how vital self-care is for people who work in caring for others. A dedicated focus for me is training healthcare staff in stress-reduction, emotional resilience and self care and to date this includes offering training courses and workshops at a children’s hospice, Kingston Hospital, Ashford and St Peter’s hospitals, and training undergraduate nurses and midwives at the University of Surrey. I have completed two yoga teacher trainings and numerous specialist modules. Soon after becoming a mother, I felt a calling to establish within my life a meaningful and supportive personal yoga practice and to study within an authentic and classical school. I set off in search of this school and soon found the Krishnamacharya and Desikachar tradition which led to my second teacher training and yoga therapy studies. My studies are ongoing and continue to support me as a mother, wife, teacher and therapist. Book a Session with Christina</image:caption>

<image:title>Yoga Therapy for Lower Back Pain - Small Group Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>The human body is a magnificent organism, and under the right conditions it has the capability to heal. Here we will explore some self care routines that promote healing, and support you on a physical, emotional and energy level. A restorative approach with some relaxation practices will help assist the body in releasing tension, and bring a calmer present moment. A Body Scan practice will help you become more consciously aware of how you feel physically, emotionally, energetically and spiritually. We can explore some visualisation techniques to help with pain management, to ease discomfort and to encourage new understanding. Gentle mindful movement maintains mobility, ensuring essential bloodflow and nutrients. Where relevant we can make some postural improvements, with some strengthening practices to help with functioning and alignment. Without oxygen to bring vitality and life to cells, tissues, organs, we can feel depleted and tired. Breathing practices can be helpful in calming the stress response and reinstating a more natural relaxed breathing rhythm. When we are calm and able to breathe more fully, energy and sleep can be restored. Along with your Yoga mat please have a couple of blankets, and a few pillows or cushions available. This class is taught by Cath Watsham.</image:caption>

<image:title>Yoga Therapy for Back Pain - Small Group Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>During the sessions, your Yoga Therapist will use standard yoga therapy techniques and also add in some more general brain retraining and mindfulness techniques. For example, sessions could include the following: Each session will have a theme which could be focussed on a chapter in a beneficial book. You could have the book to read and discuss, or your Yoga Therapist could cover the relevant chapter for you. The theme would help to focus the session but also to allow group members to interact and get to know each other, thus building a supportive community. This can be introduced once the class is established rather than overloading at the beginning. The session would start with a few full yogic breaths to help grounding and then a gentle warm up of the body. Yoga asanas would be done slowly and with the breath, allowing everyone time to adapt the posture to their needs (props such as blocks, blankets or bolsters and chairs would be used as available and when required). Asanas would be focussed around helping with back pain: A focus on the posture when sitting, or standing Strengthening the abdominal muscles to take the strain off the back Including full body stretches to relieve compression and twists to help with body alignment Together with your Yoga Therapist you will explore the 5-Kosha model to help understanding of the bigger picture of our experience: Physical – asanas, body scan, awareness Energy – breathwork, prana, nature Emotional – mindfulness, self-enquiry, affirmations Wisdom – meditation, intuition, creativity Bliss – meditation, joy, gratitude You will also explore some of the brain retraining general principles e.g., the concept of Neuroplastic pain, somatic tracking, corrective experiences, dialling down high alert, the power of positive experiences etc. Each session would end with a long relaxation that would include a relevant poem, visualisation or meditation that links to the class theme. A Yoga Nidra would be included in at least one session out of the 6-week programme. These sessions are taught by Julia Woodham.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A small group session involving gentle yoga postures, breathing techniques, visualisation, sound and meditation to relax the body and mind, helping to reduce pain and stiffness and keeping the joints comfortably moving. There are differing kinds of arthritis and different causes and the approach in this small group session will be considerate of these differences. The techniques will support self- management of symptoms which empowers us to live with more ease and quality of life. Relaxation techniques and lifestyle tips to help promote good quality sleep will be shared. Good sleep supports health and wellbeing and can reduce pain. Techniques to settle and re-balance the nervous system will help regulate internal systems, and reduce stress and pain by activating the relaxation response. Some simple dietary suggestions will be shared to support bone health and reduce inflammation. The practice can incorporate movements whilst seated in a chair if that is most accessible. Blankets and cushions will help give support if you are working on a yoga mat. Yoga Therapy for Arthritis sessions are taught by Christina Jones.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Our body tells a story of our life journey so far. Our perception of life is a unique one. We all see and experience life in a very personal and individual way - often shaped by our past experiences, beliefs, attitudes, and wisdom chips collected along the way! To lift this veil of perception, we have to delve a little deeper within ourselves, towards an inner landscape full of treasures. Sometimes we have to return to our roots, the foundations we are built upon, to strengthen the whole structure and provide the nourishment it needs to grow and flourish. This inner landscape can always be worked on. Our life story can be tweaked and changed along the way. Transformation and joy isn’t to be experienced at the finish line. It’s to be found in the present moment, if we are able to see clearly, learn and enjoy the adventure that is life. A safe space will be provided to support personal inquiry into how you can support your own healing process. Together we can explore your healthcare needs and use a number of traditional Yoga models to diagnose your health from a physical, energy, mind and spiritual perspective. A personalised and evolving programme will be created, where we can explore some specific tools. Some gentle, mindful movement, breathwork, relaxation, meditation and more with the aim to promote good health in you as a whole. It’s important that you feel comfortable with the practice and that it’s achievable for you to do. All tools are designed to help in everyday life and so you’ll have the opportunity to explore some practices in your own time. Insights and experiences can be shared enabling practice to be tailored, creating a new level of healing. Along with your Yoga mat please have a couple of blankets, and a few pillows or cushions available. You can book a one-to-one session with Cath Watsham.</image:caption>

<image:title>One-to-one Yoga Therapy - One-to-one Yoga Therapy Sessions with Christina</image:title>
<image:caption>One-to-one sessions will feature a combination of gentle, carefully chosen, simple and accessible movements, postures, conscious breathing, some sound work and positive mental focus as well as lifestyle and dietary suggestions where relevant. The sessions will aim to promote wellbeing on a physical, mental and emotional level, increasing self-awareness so that this becomes a part of daily life. You don’t need to have a flexible or strong body to start with or to have a long, deep breath. All that is needed is to gently focus on relaxing, reconnecting and rediscovering comfort and ease in your own body and breath, releasing tension on all levels of the human system. Thus, a feeling of more space and stability in the body, mind and emotions can be experienced. Over time, at a pace that suits the individual, the practice will develop and evolve to build on these foundations, setting your own path for health and happiness that will support you for life. <image:title>Yoga Therapy for Pelvic & Lower Back Pain (women only) - Small Group Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>An offering specifically for the unique needs of women. To come together as a small group and explore some relevant themes, and self care routines to cope better during life challenges. We will take a restorative approach, gently exploring movement and stillness in a kind and nurturing way - to improve self awareness and facilitate opening and release within the body. Postural habits can be explored and improved upon to support alignment and pelvic organ support. Visualisation and relaxation practices can be really helpful in easing discomfort, and managing pain. Mindfully experiencing and listening to our body, noticing felt sensations, can promote insight. We can also practice these skills in our everyday life, to improve concentration, lift us out of the mundane, and to find inspiration and joy. A breathing inquiry practice can help us become more aware of our habitual breathing patterns, often our natural breathing rhythm can be disrupted by upsetting emotional experiences. With breath work we can create more freedom, energy and also calm the stress response, encouraging healing and vitality in all systems of the body. Along with your Yoga mat please have a couple of blankets, and a few pillows or cushions available. These sessions are taught by Cath Watsham.</image:caption>

<image:title>Christina Jones chronic pain session - Small Group Sessions for Chronic Pain with Christina Jones</image:title>
<image:caption>Christina’s Approach: These small group sessions will utilise gentle movement and breathing techniques, visualisation, sound and meditation to relax the body and mind, helping to reduce pain, improving mobility and feeling more comfortable in your body. Self-awareness is key to managing chronic pain as many factors can cause and contribute to the condition. With improved self-awareness and self-connection that naturally increases through mindful yoga practice, we can start to understand which movements, daily activities, lifestyle habits, food and drink choices will help to manage and alleviate symptoms as well as the things that don’t. This is called self-management and it empowers us to live with more ease and quality of life. Sleep hygiene ( relaxation and lifestyle tips that support sleep) will be a focus as the quality of our sleep has an immense impact on the experience of pain and on our mood. Techniques to settle and re-balance the nervous system will help regulate internal systems, and reduce stress and pain by activating the relaxation response. The practice can incorporate movements whilst seated in a chair if that is most accessible. Blankets and cushions will help give support if you are working on a yoga mat.</image:caption>

<image:title>Julia Woodham chronic pain sessions - Small Group Sessions for Chronic Pain with Julia Woodham</image:title>
<image:caption>These small group sessions will use restorative yoga including gentle movement, unlearning pain through relaxation, visualisation and whole body breathing. For decades, scientists and doctors thought that pain could be caused only by damage to the structure of the body. They looked for the source of chronic pain in bulging spinal discs, muscle injuries and infections. More recent research, however, points to a second source of chronic pain: the biology of your thoughts, emotions, expectations and memories. Most chronic pain has its roots in a physical injury or illness, but it is sustained by how that initial trauma changes not just the body but also the mind-body relationship. Chronic pain differs from acute pain in three important ways: First, the body can become more sensitive to threat, sending threat signals to the brain even when the threat is minor or non-existent. Second, the brain can become more likely to interpret situations as threatening and sensations as painful, producing pain responses that are out of proportion to any real danger. Finally, with repeated pain experiences, the boundaries between the many aspects of the pain response such as sensation, suffering and stress become blurred. In most cases of chronic pain, the mind and body have learned how to detect the slightest hint of a threat and mount a full protective response. Restorative yoga turns on the healing relaxation response by combining gentle yoga poses with conscious breathing.</image:caption>
