Guidance for students for online classes

Our classes will take place online either in one-to-one form or small group classes with between three to six participants. We have created some guidelines to improve your experience and to ensure your safety.

Health questionnaire

For both one-to-one sessions and for group classes, Nilbon therapists will ask clients to complete a health questionnaire. For group classes, this will be done prior to a 30-minute introductory meeting with their yoga therapist. This session is to ensure that your yoga therapist and Nilbon are aware of any needs you may have to practise safely and benefit from your classes. For one-to-one classes, this will be during the first session and the therapist will then go through the health questionnaire with you during the first one-to-one session. The health questionnaire will incorporate an acknowledgement by you that you have read and understood the requirements and conditions of participating in an online yoga therapy class.

Students’ responsibility

In the online classes, the yoga therapist cannot identify the risks within the setting where you practice, nor can she/he see as much as they can during an in-person class. By having a lesson online, therefore, you are recognising that you will be responsible for the safety of your own home and for practising within your own competence.

When you practise online you and parts of your home where you practice will be seen by others in the class. By participating in the online classes, you consent to others seeing you and parts of your home that are visible on the camera. If the teacher wishes to record the session, then they must ask you in advance if you agree to this.

We have put together some tips to enhance your online yoga therapy experience:

  1. Work out where you will practise and set up your mat and any props you might need.

  2. Set up your computer and make sure the camera is correctly positioned so that the teacher can see you clearly.

  3. Make sure that any cables are tucked away safely.

  4. Make sure that you have the camera on your computer is showing parts of your home that you consent to others in the Zoom session seeing them.

  5. Tell the people in your family / house what you are up to do so that you can enjoy the lesson without being disturbed.

  6. Switch off phones and all other applications on your computer – if they are left on, they will interfere with the stability of the connection and distract you from the lesson.

  7. You will be sent an invitation to join the lesson – when the time is right just click on the link and sign in. Make sure you have downloaded Zoom before the lesson

  8. starts. Do not share the links or passwords with anyone else.

  9. When you join mute your audio button – if you need so speak to the teacher you can either ‘raise a hand’ button on Zoom or literally raise a hand! Also ensure that instead of gallery view you have chosen Speaker View... and then hover over the host to select as main speaker.

  10. Bear with the situation if there are glitches ... it may take some getting used to. There will be hiccups but after all yoga is all about being flexible! The class is likely to be at a gentler pace than usual so that we all get the hang of things.

  11. Above all enjoy the class!
